complete vintage vinyl stereo system $150

I have a few requests to put together an affordable but quality stereo system for new vinyl enthusiasts. I have dug through my collection of vintage gear and found this combo that I will offer at a packge price of $150.00.

The turnatable is an automatic Akai Model AP-004 with a newer cartidge/needle (less than 10 hours playtime) and soon to have a new belt (must run out and replace it this week). Excellent condition.

The AR18 vintage late 70's speakers are little gems, cabinets and drivers are like new. Small footprint (16.5"tall, 9.5" wide, & 6" deep) but big sound. Sturdy build and impressive range.

A choice of two receivers:

a). Toshiba SA-735, 35 watts of true vintage power, faceplate is excellent with a few minor scuffs on the woodgrain sides. All the look, feel, build quality and sound of the 1970's.

OR

b) Hitachi SR-8010, a little newer, early 1980's vintage, 50 watts of pure dc power, special Dynaharmony circuitry provides the punch of a much bigger amp. The Hitachi amps/receivers are real "sleepers" taking the backseat behind the marketing of Marantz/Pioneer/Sansui but have a quality build that would cost a fortune to replicate in today's electronics. Excellent cosmetics, faceplate perfect and Rosewood cabinet in excellent condition.
Superb packge deal for a quality sound system, Offered at $150.00

Vintage Pioneer SA-7500 & TX6500, Classic 1970's

Rare pair, Silver-faced 1970's vintage Pioneer integrated amp/tuner combo
The SA-7500 appeared in 1975 and was modestly rated at 40 watts per channel. It sold for around $300. This integrated amp was also sold in 1976 and 1977. It was a good seller for Pioneer having more contemporary look and reasonable pricetag. Legendary 1970's Japanese build quality & look. This great classic combo still have many years of service left. A punchie and bold performer, the SA-7500 sounds much bigger than it's power output (2 x 40 watt) might suggest.
The TX-6500 tuner is a solid performer and a perfect match for the SA-7500 circa 1977.
Both units are in near mint condition and recently serviced. Easy 9/10 condition both in function and cosmetically. Asking $210.00 for the pair. Pics are representative only. I can take some of my units if interested.

Details / Specifications:
Tuner: TX-6500 II
Superb Selectivity FM Front End
Junction type FET and frequency linear 3-gang variable capacitor are utilized in the front end to achieve an exceptional effective sensitivity.
Highly Stable FM IF Section
A high density IC, which incorporates 3 differential amplifier stages, plus diode limiter and quadrature detector circuits, is used together with two dual element phase linear ceramic filters int he IF amplifier section. By inserting a transistorized matching buffer amplifier between the ceramic filters, increased gain and phase response flatness are obtained, resulting in an outstanding effective sensitivity. Adjacent signal interference and even spurious signals at the same frequency as a desired station become strongly suppressed.
Multiplex Circuit Includes IC PLL
In order to obtain stable seperation without adverse effects from ambient temperature and aging variations, the stereo demodulator includes a newly developed IC Phase Locked Loop Circuit. Beautiful stereo reception can be enjoyed with superb harmonic and intermodulation distortion characteristics.
Advanced Performance AM Tuner
Selectivity and frequency response are improved by employing a high density IC and ceramic filter circuit in the AM tuner section.
Effective FM Muting
Small Sliding Station Reminders
Built-in AM Ferrite Bar Antennae
Orignal 8 Page Instruction Manual and separate Schematic Diagram
Dimensions: 15" wide x 5 1/2" tall and 12 11/16" deep

Audio Collector Needs Help!!!

Thank-you for your overwhelming response! I have deleted all the gear that has sold from this blog and what remains are some great speakers and a highly underated amp/tuner from Optonica. In fact I have re-installed this combo in my bedroom and hooked up an old Yamaha cd player and have re-kindled my admiration for this "warm" but crisp vintage sound. I would gladly keep the pair and may just do that...but seeing as I already have a nice Optonica receiver in reserve I will leave them posted for a few more days. Hope you all enjoyed viewing/buying my old gear and that the joy they have given me will be experienced by others soon.

Below you will find many speakers, amps, receivers, turntables that have all been part of my vintage audio hobby and quest for that "perfect" sound offered for sale in the archives. They are all excellent in their own rights but sadly for me my obsession has led me to leave most of this gear unattended or in storage as I seek the holy grail of sound. Due to both space constraints and the desire to stop hoarding this equipment I have attempted in a descriptive blog format to offer some of these treasures for others to enjoy and appreciate. Please take the time to look it over there are some rarities, lo-fi and hi- fi alike. Thanks for looking and hopefully you'll find something to bring home too!!

First love, Henry Kloss Classics AR-6's... east coast sound defined

My first real hi-fi speakers were AR-6's. I think I paid $86.00 each for them back in 1975. I drove them with a Pilot 30 watt per channel receiver and they sounded great. Most of my friends went for larger speakers but these little AR-6's sounded so natural to me. People were shocked to hear these in my system and couldn't understand how small speakers could sound so much better than their larger speakers. They were very revealing. There is no hype at all to these or any AR speakers. If there is bass on the recording they will reproduce it, but if not they do not sound at all boomy as did some of the larger inexpensive speakers of the time. You hear exactly what was recorded with no enhancements. I can just tell you that they will let you hear what is on your recordings. Good recordings will sound good, and lousy recordings will sound lousy on them. The same thing goes for the electronics driving them. The better your electronics, the better these speakers are likely to sound.
The AR-6 is a nice loudspeaker system. They are comparable to the AR-4x. Great low end from such a small speaker. The AR-6 consists of an 8 inch woofer and a 1 inch cone tweeter. The AR-6's are a very rare find and unbelievable sound quality from the tiny cabinet measuring only 19.5 inches high by 12 inches wide and 7 5/8 deep. They are truely like a window into your recordings. Whatever is on them is what you will hear, and nothing more or less. It is crucial that you have clean power to drive these with. I would say nothing under 30 watts, unless it is a current dumping tube amp, or a class A solid state amp.
This is a pair of vintage AR (Acoustic Research) bookshelf speakers, model AR 6. The 8" woofers have newer foam surrounds, speaker grills are original showing slight age stains with 1 logo missing. The veneer cabinets are intact with an older refinish that I'd rate 6.5/10. Great compact design. Cosmetically they are far from perfect but the acoustics make up for this, genuine top notch Kloss engineering at an affordable price. I am parting with these with hesitation and only because of space issues, asking $85.00 for the pair or best offer.

Legendary British sound, Celestion Ditton 15's

Celestion Ditton 15 Studio Monitor Speakers. Legendary British Quality. The Celestion Ditton 15 vintage speakers were introduced in 1966. The Ditton 15 was the biggest selling bookshelf loudspeaker of its time. It produce good quality sound and bass response. The first thing you'll notice is their unrestricted bass output, they just seem to go down and sound round. The bigger the room the deeper the bass and I think 30hz or more but handling the deepness rather than just coping like most modern speakers do. The treble is smooth but not warm rolling off at 16k and sounds lacking at first until your ears adjust then they just sound like tweeters and well blended with the woofer too. I couldn't believe that 30 watts @ 8 ohms were the actual rating , their sound just seems to fill the room with ease.

Genuine classic Celestion Ditton 15, 2-way, 2-driver speakers with passive radiator in very good condition, with all drivers and crossovers in perfect original condition, with both logos present on the grilles. Velvet-like three-dimensional rich life-like deep sound. High end quality on the budget. Speakers like these made today will cost you upward of $1000. Very hard to find a pair like this. Play like new, no issues. Good amplification with at least 40 wpc rms is a must. Will work best with 70-120 wpc DC power amplifier. Yes, I know they have 30 watts continuous rating, but then they also push sound pressure level of 100 dB at 10 watts input (for comparison, a jet taking off produces 125 dB SPL). Celestion 15 feature 8 inch woofers and stand 21 inch tall; rated impedance is 4-8 Ohms with rated continuous input power 30 Watts RMS and max power handling of 50 Watts RMS. These are very high quality speakers for a serious audiophile.

Condition....................................8 / 10 (Very Good condition) only slight nicks on the walnut veneer cabinets, Circa 1976 in perfect working condition. Asking $125.00 for the pair or best offer.
