First love, Henry Kloss Classics AR-6's... east coast sound defined

My first real hi-fi speakers were AR-6's. I think I paid $86.00 each for them back in 1975. I drove them with a Pilot 30 watt per channel receiver and they sounded great. Most of my friends went for larger speakers but these little AR-6's sounded so natural to me. People were shocked to hear these in my system and couldn't understand how small speakers could sound so much better than their larger speakers. They were very revealing. There is no hype at all to these or any AR speakers. If there is bass on the recording they will reproduce it, but if not they do not sound at all boomy as did some of the larger inexpensive speakers of the time. You hear exactly what was recorded with no enhancements. I can just tell you that they will let you hear what is on your recordings. Good recordings will sound good, and lousy recordings will sound lousy on them. The same thing goes for the electronics driving them. The better your electronics, the better these speakers are likely to sound.
The AR-6 is a nice loudspeaker system. They are comparable to the AR-4x. Great low end from such a small speaker. The AR-6 consists of an 8 inch woofer and a 1 inch cone tweeter. The AR-6's are a very rare find and unbelievable sound quality from the tiny cabinet measuring only 19.5 inches high by 12 inches wide and 7 5/8 deep. They are truely like a window into your recordings. Whatever is on them is what you will hear, and nothing more or less. It is crucial that you have clean power to drive these with. I would say nothing under 30 watts, unless it is a current dumping tube amp, or a class A solid state amp.
This is a pair of vintage AR (Acoustic Research) bookshelf speakers, model AR 6. The 8" woofers have newer foam surrounds, speaker grills are original showing slight age stains with 1 logo missing. The veneer cabinets are intact with an older refinish that I'd rate 6.5/10. Great compact design. Cosmetically they are far from perfect but the acoustics make up for this, genuine top notch Kloss engineering at an affordable price. I am parting with these with hesitation and only because of space issues, asking $85.00 for the pair or best offer.
